Our Mission & Vision
The Southeast Recovery Learning Community (SERLC) provides non-clinical, mutual peer-to-peer support in a welcoming, inclusive, and trauma-informed environment for individuals whose lives have been impacted by trauma, oppression, discrimination, addiction, mental health challenges, extreme emotional states, psychiatric diagnoses, and other life experiences. We recognize that recovery, healing, and wellness are deeply personal journeys, and we honor the unique paths, strengths, identities, cultures, and lived experiences that each person brings.

The SERLC advances recovery, resilience, wellness, and social justice by centering the voices and leadership of people with lived experience. Through peer support, education, advocacy, leadership development, and community collaboration, we empower individuals and strengthen communities while working to address the systemic inequities that impact mental health, substance use, housing stability, economic opportunity, healthcare access, and overall well-being.

We believe that healing and recovery occur not only through individual growth but also through creating more just, inclusive, and responsive systems. SERLC works to challenge stigma, reduce barriers to access, amplify diverse voices, and promote policies and practices that advance equity and human dignity. By fostering connection, mutuality, hope, and meaningful participation, we help build communities where every person is valued, heard, and supported in pursuing a life of purpose, choice, and belonging.
At the center of everything we do is our desire to help people thrive. We are intentionally centered around relationships and acknowledge that every interaction is an opportunity for learning and increased connection among our community members and employees.
A core part of our mission is to provide education that promotes recovery, resilience, diversity, equity, inclusion, and cultural humility while increasing awareness and understanding of mental health, substance use, trauma, disabilities, and the value of peer support. Through trainings, workshops, community presentations, and learning events, we empower individuals, families, peer professionals, and communities with knowledge that reduces stigma, honors diverse identities and lived experiences, supports self-determination, and advances equity and social justice for all.

SERLC Land Acknowledgement
The Southeast Recovery Learning Community acknowledges that we gather, learn, and build community on the ancestral and contemporary homelands of the Wampanoag Nation, whose people have cared for this land and continue to do so today. We also recognize the neighboring and intersecting homelands of the Nipmuc people, whose territories historically extended into parts of southeastern Massachusetts. We honor the Nauset people of Cape Cod and the islands, and the broader Massachusett people whose homelands shaped the region’s earliest histories.
We acknowledge the ongoing impacts of colonization, displacement, and erasure, and we honor the resilience, sovereignty, and cultural leadership of Indigenous peoples who remain deeply connected to this land.
The SERLC is committed to continued learning, relationship‑building, and supporting healing practices rooted in community, connection, and respect.
