Community Connector

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Facilitate groups and activities in the community.

  • Educate the person about community resources and services

  • Foster independence, hope, inspiration and a sense of community.

  • Provide advocacy, support, education, information, and training in recovery tools.

  • Assist people in identifying and assessing resources, services, and support that they need and desire within their communities.

  • Support the development of self-advocacy skills and other strategies that promote recovery by teaching and modeling these skills.

  • Create a welcoming and helpful Recovery Learning Center environment in which participants, family, friend, and others important in the lives of participants are welcomed, respected, and valued.

The Community Connector position will:
 
  • Have flexibility to extend services to people throughout the community.
  • Facilitate and support people as community-facing staff committed to grassroots outreach.
  • Coordinate with DMH Site Directors, area service providers, and community members to ensure outreach and community group locations are as accessible as possible according to local need.
  • Ensure that groups are located as close to public transportation as possible.
  • Maintain a list/directory of resources available for each community in the RLC area.
  • Encourage peers to become involved in existing social activities and supports in their community.
  • Assist with the operation of peer-operated Recovery Learning Community (RLC) setting(s) in which people with lived experience of mental health conditions choose to join as participants and work collaboratively on their recovery goals along with their peers.

Requirements​:

  • Current or previous experience as a recipient of mental health services required.

  • Basic familiarity inclusive of ability to enter and access data/information.

  • Excellent interpersonal skills to instill confidence and to advocate for SERLC participants.

  • Cultural sensitivity and comfort with a wide range of social, racial, and ethnic populations.

  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required; Associates or Bachelor's degree in Human Services is preferred.

  • Certification as Peer Specialist (CPS) in state of service preferred.

  • CPR and First Aid may be required within two weeks of hire

Schedule: Thu-Fri 10am-3pm
Hours per week: 10
Pay Rate: $17.50 / hour
Driving Requirements: Drivers License check and vehicle access required.
